Leadership Recognition

“Leadership in the OCDSB is the demonstration of personal initiative to achieve a positive outcome.”

Students

Our Junior students show much leadership initiative in playing various roles in the school such as lunch and bus monitors, masters of ceremonies at assemblies and ambassadors greeting visitors. As well, they participate in the reading buddy program and many school-wide events guiding our younger students. Some students play a very important role in providing services in the library, in the computer lab and in the sports and physical activity programs. In addition to informal recognition on a regular basis, we acknowledge their contributions in our classrooms, school announcements, newsletters, assemblies, and end-of-year awards ceremonies.

Staff

Our staff members have actively participated in numerous Board-wide professional development activities in literacy and numeracy, and we recognize their initiative by providing and supporting opportunities for further professional growth. Staff members were instrumental in the development of our specialized Literacy Room for Teacher and Student resources. Our Character Education program is an ongoing focus for which a concerted effort is made to generate a school-wide program of activities based on an integrated approach to support a rich and positive school climate and vision.

Parents/Guardians/Volunteers

Our dedicated School Council meets monthly and provides leadership to a network of volunteers by working with the school to support various initiatives. Their efforts organizing school-wide initiatives for the students and their families have demonstrated their commitment to raising funds for the school’s short and long-term objectives. As invaluable partners, we thank our parents, guardians and volunteers on an ongoing basis, and look for opportunities to acknowledge them, such as school announcements, our Principal’s report to School Council, school newsletters, and our annual volunteer appreciation event.

Community

Community partners and local businesses respond generously to our School Council request to contribute their services or to donate gifts in-kind toward the success of our Fall Festival, Harvest Table, Bread Fair, Festival of Lights, nutrition program and the June BBQ. We are always seeking new community partnerships to broaden learning experiences for Le Phare students.
