Black History Month in Canada

LePhare proudly celebrates black history month 2025.  This year's theme, Black Legacy and Leadership: Celebrating Canadian History and Uplifting Future Generations, celebrates the diversity, leadership and legacy of Black Canadians while also highlighting the role these trailblazers play every day, inspiring young people. Students are exploring Black history and culture through diverse learning experiences this month.

Chinese Heritage Month

An Act to proclaim the month of February as Chinese Heritage Month received royal assent on December 19, 2024. 

February is an important month for the Chinese Canadian community because the Lunar New Year occurs during the winter season. The Lunar New Year is a significant cultural observance and celebratory time for Chinese Canadians as it signifies a new beginning and heralds the upcoming arrival of spring.

Kiss and Ride

A friendly reminder about our Kiss and Ride lane: It's designed for quick drop-offs to keep traffic moving. If you plan to walk your child to the yard, please park your car in one of our available parking spots. Thanks for your cooperation in keeping the Kiss and Ride lane efficient!

Reminder - Kindergarten Information Night

Is your child turning 4 in 2025? It's time to register for Kindergarten at the OCDSB!

Our school is hosting an in-person information February 20 from 5:00pm to 6:00 pm. Join us to meet some of the staff, get answers to your questions and start your child’s Kindergarten journey! Please note this information session is geared towards parents and guardians. We will host another open house later in the spring where families who have registered for kindergarten will have the opportunity to bring their children to visit the classrooms.

Early Reading Screener - Term 1 report cards

As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that all children receive the support they need, the Early Reading Screener was administered early in the school year. The results of these measures were shared with parents & caregivers at that time. These results will also appear on the Term 1 Report Card. Please note that this checkmark reflects the beginning-of-year data while the marks and comments reflect your child’s learning since that time. Please note, this applies only to students in year 2 of kindergarten as well as grade 1 and 2 students. Report cards will be sent electronically on February 12.

Toonie Tuesday

Toonie Tuesday is coming up in February. Each year the OCDSB raises funds through Toonie Tuesday to support the Education Foundation of Ottawa. SchoolCash Online will be available for families who wish to contribute to this charity between February 2nd and 27th. Stay tuned for a message that will be sent out through SchoolCash online.
